For me, a good and productive day begins with a good night’s sleep. If I’ve had restless sleep or wake up with a sore back, I feel like that affects the rest of my day. Maybe I’m tired all day or low on energy, so for me to feel as productive and energized as I can, that begins with getting the best sleep I can.
Here’s what helps me:
Take a shower before bed.
There’s nothing better than a hot shower or warm bath to get my body and mind ready for bed. I know this is crazy, but I cannot sleep if I haven’t had a shower. It doesn’t matter how late I’ve been out or if I’m not even dirty, a nighttime shower is part of my nightly ritual.
Unplug from your device(s).
I’ve read many places where the blue screens on your device send some type of message to your brain that keeps it wired, thus, keeping you awake at night. Thirty minutes before getting ready for bed, I plug in my phone and watch and don’t look at them until the next day.
Put your favorite lotion or oil on your wrists.
I have this Aveda oil that I love dabbing on my wrists before bed. The smell is so soothing and if I breathe deeply a couple of times, then my heart rate relaxes and my brain is ready for sleep. If you’ve ever had a massage, then you know what I’m talking about. Before you begin your massage, you breathe deeply whatever oil you’ve selected, and that automatically relaxes your brain. If you haven’t tried it, you should!
Read a book.
I save my quiet time for the end of the day, but if you do yours in the morning, then you’ll want to read some type of book (not scary!) to tire your eyes out.
What do you do to create a good night’s sleep?
