A Busy Weekend!

Happy Monday, y’all! I can’t believe we’re already at the end of July. The end of summer is always bittersweet for me. I’m so sad summer is coming to an end because I truly love being home with my kids, but on the other hand, it means that I’ll soon be decorating my house for fall and Christmas 🙂

We had a very busy weekend, so I wanted to recap that with y’all. Just like in college, we’re going to say the weekend starts on Thursday haha!

Thursday night I had book club and we had two books to discuss. And full transparency, as the book club leader (I started our book club two years ago!), I only read one…..oops. The one I read was The Calamity Club and I was SO EXCITED to discuss it because I loved it! Kathryn Stockett is an excellent writer and she really brings her characters to life through their dialogue. She writes in dialect (my favorite to read) and I could really hear their accent in my head as I read the pages. This book was over 600 pages and we all agreed that we needed more at the end!

We also read The Book Club for Troublesome Women (which I didn’t read….whoops), but after hearing the discussion from the ladies who chose to read this one, I’m definitely reading it. It sounds like both books have strong female characters and really focused on female friendships within the story. I cannot wait to add this one to my Goodreads Read shelf 🙂 iykyk

Friday wasn’t too busy–we relaxed at home (this is Merritt watching Mr. Roger’s Neighborhood) and got a few things for Dustin’s birthday…

Saturday was Dustin’s birthday!!!!! I ran that morning and then the boys joined me to run another half mile (see this reel 🙂

Then Dustin and Harrison went golfing. Harrison was able to practice his putting and they both had a great time together

That night our families got together and ate at Half Shell Oyster House to celebrate! Let’s just say, it was so busy that it took a long time to get our food (we also had a large party) that our kids were losing it near the end. After dinner, we went to the green space where a live band was playing and danced and had a great time!

Sunday Dustin and I celebrated 12 years of marriage!!!! We went to church, met my mom at our house to leave the kids with her, and then we went off on a lunch date. Sadly, I didn’t get pictures of us together (I know, it’s terrible) but we had the best time! During lunch we planned for the future and then went to Barnes and Noble and I got to sit and read magazine without interruption LOL. We also got the kids some books-I couldn’t resist ha!

12 years down and the rest of our lives to go 🙂

Friday Favorites!

Happy Friday, y’all! I hope it’s been a great week for you! We snuck in a quick overnight trip to Chattanooga that I’ll share about in this blog post!

Tomorrow the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale opens to everyone. This is something I’ve loved shopping since 2015, and this year wasn’t the most exciting of sales–but I did get a few things that I wanted to share!

These heels look cute and I think they would be very comfortable for teaching! I can wear them with either a dress or jeans, so I can’t wait to get them in and try them on.

I also got these jeans (that can be worn with the shoes above). I sized up one based on the reviews, so we’ll see how they fit. But these can be worn now and in the cold months!

I also got these pajamas which I’m very excited about! I’ve got multiple pairs of pjs from the sale over the years, but they all button up the front. The Nordstrom pjs are always worth the buy!!!

I finished this book on our ride back from Chattanooga and it’s book 1 in a series of 4. I know I’ve talked about this author, Robert Bailey, before on my blog, but I love all of his books!!! I devoured this one in three days and started the 2nd book as soon as I finished this one. He’s local to north Alabama, so his writing features a lot of places I’m familiar with, but his plot lines are always so good. He always keeps me guessing and then I start doubting myself when I think I’ve figured it out. I highly recommend reading one of his books!

We took a quick trip to Chattanooga this week so visit the aquarium and children’s museum-both were a big hit with the kids!

This is a neat little fact, but Chattanooga served as Spain’s base camp for training and such before they started traveling the US for their World Cup matches. And the hotel we stayed in was the hotel Spain’s soccer team stayed in–which we didn’t know until after we got there. We kept wondering why there were pictures of Spain’s players and their crest all over our hotel.

This is part of the outside of our hotel and the entire first floor was wrapped in pictures of the players. It was very neat to learn that and it made sense why the hotel was decked out in support of Spain!

Yesterday was our last summer reading program day at our local library, and it was prize day! We all turned in our completed summer reading logs recording all of the reading we did over the summer, and the mayor drew for prizes out of little fish bowls divided by age brackets. All of the Shaneyfelts won this year :). We’re never that lucky and it’ll probably never happen again, but we all left with prizes this year!

Friday Favorites!!

Happy Friday, friends! Today the kids and I are going to run some errands and then play outside in the water 🙂

As usual, today I’m sharing a few of my FAVORITES with y’all!

I finished The Calamity Club and it was FANTASTIC! I loved the two main characters, Meg and Birdie, and their dialogue was so funny. I laughed out loud many times during the book. I also really loved Tom and he was such a special character to me. This book is long, but it’s really realy worth the read. There are some books I read where I finish it and think, “This could have been shorter,” but not with this book. Every single bit of it was needed!

My show came back on last Friday and I am THRILLED!! I really love this show. If you have AppleTV, you have to watch it. The first episode takes place in the past and it sets everything up because the second episode really is kind of like the first. A new episode comes out every Friday, so I’ll be watching today at naptime!

We had a great 4th! We did lunch at my mom and stepdad’s farm and then went home to take a little nap. That evening our small group got together for burgers and fireworks…Merritt hated the fireworks so much that we had to take her inside and I stayed inside some and then Dustin came in so I could go out and see fireworks. Maybe next year she’ll be okay with fireworks.

This past week, y’all have loved the athletic pieces I’ve shared, so I’ll share them again! This tank was perfect for a hot day outside and then my favorite shorts (which also double as my running shorts too and I get the 4″) finished my athletic patriotic outfit 🙂

I tried getting a picture Sunday after church of all 3 kids and this is how it went :). Harrison just knows to smile and look at the camera no matter what LOL

I had a doctor’s appointment early Monday morning, so I ran by Starbucks after to get a coffee and egg bites. When I got to the window to pay, the lady gave me a free matcha since she had a girl training and making lots of drinks! I’ve never tried a matcha, so it was nice to get to try it for free. It was sweeter than I expected it to be but not too sweet–but I don’t think I’d order one one my own. I love my lattes too much.
