I meant to blog this concert recap yesterday, but I forgot it was a Show and Tell on Personal Style–and since I love clothes, I couldn’t resist!
Let me preface this with saying that I grew up in a house where music was constantly playing. We knew every birthday that we would be singing “They Say It’s Your Birthday” by The Beatles. Or I would be riding in the truck with my dad and he would quiz me on the music playing (always classic rock). So for me to go to a concert on a school night is not out of character for me!
A couple of months ago, my best friend texted letting me know that a band we loved in college (and still love) would be playing a show in our college town. Tickets were bought and the countdown began!
Getting to the concert was eventful. I left school on Thursday and drove to Birmingham to meet up with Janie at her house and ride with her to the concert. Traffic was beyond horrible! If you know anything about 280 in Birmingham, you know it was bad–and to top it off, there were a few wrecks. What should have taken us 20-25 minutes max to drive ended up taking close to an hour.
Then once we got into Tuscaloosa, we forgot it was graduation weekend. Not only that, but it was also Cindo de Mayo and a Thursday–and we all know in college, the weekend starts on Thursday. We planned on eating downtown somewhere nice before the concert began at 8. We couldn’t find a single parking spot, plus with there being so many people, we knew the wait would be outrageous.
So we ate at…
Jimmy Johns. Yay. Haha!
Then we had a hard time finding parking and ended up parking over a mile away. I made sure to have my mace with me in case we got mugged because…Tuscaloosa.
We waited in line forever for drinks and the concert had already started by the time we got to our seat. And we saw two people from our hometown–small world!
It was 60 degrees on May 5th–we froze!
Brandi Carlisle opened for The Avett Brothers. We only knew one song by her, and she played it. Then she tried to get political and Janie and I both agreed that we do not want to hear musicians’s political opinions at their concert….just perform for us.
Blurry iPhone picture but The Avett Brothers were so fun! I’m glad I finally got to see them live. In my opinion, there’s nothing better than live music. This definitely wasn’t my most favorite concert I’ve ever been to, but it was fun!
What’s the best concert you’ve ever been to?
