I had LOTS of downtime in February to read, so even though I only read two books, one of them was HUGE! Both were really good books and both were really really different ha!
I don’t even remember how I came across this book, but it was an Oprah book club pick. Two things about Oprah–I don’t care for her at all (and her ideas about Christianity) but she does tend to choose good books. This book was no exception. It’s about an newly married African American couple (that is important because of what happens) visiting the husband’s parents when he is falsely accused of raping a woman and wrongly incarcerated. (This is also during present day.) The novel is told in two different formats–letters from characters to the wrongly incarcerated husband and then also narrative. This was a good book to read and really made you think. I highly recommend it!
For those of you who have never heard of Dietrich Bonhoeffer, he was a German pastor/theologian who was anti-Nazi. One of the most interesting things about his life was that he was part of a group that wanted to take Hitler’s regime and Hitler down. He was eventually arrested and taken to a concentration camp where he was executed. His legacy in Germany is honored. This book was so large (600+ pages) that it’s impossible to summarize it efficiently in a short paragraph. If you like reading biographies, this one is great!
