Fall Favorites 2020: Fall Decorating

Welcome to Week 2 of mine and Emily’s Fall Favorites Link Up!!! I always look forward to today’s prompt! I love seasonal decorating AND I love peeking inside other people’s homes haha! Call me weird, but I love getting decorating and design ideas from y’all.

Today we’re sharing our fall decorating! My house looks WAY different this fall than it ever has, and that’s because I’ve got a very active one year old boy who loves getting into EVERYTHING 🙂 Those of y’all who have come before me know exactly what I mean. For that reason, I kept this year’s fall decorations simple, but they still feel cozy to me!

(I had to wait until after Harrison went to bed to take pictures so I could make sure the house was clean LOL)

I did add one new decor piece this year and it’s the light up pumpkin. I love pieces that feel cozy. I’m ready to replace that picture with a mirror and lighten up the lamp choice because I love the dresser and don’t want to change that.

In our living room, I just replaced the sofa table decor and mantle decor.

I should have taken a picture of Harrison’s toys on the right because it’s the most organized they have ever been! They’ll stay that way until he wakes up ha

I added a pumpkin plate to this counter and a light up pumpkin.

On this side I added a fall cookbook and another light up pumpkin that I bought a few years ago on major clearance at Cracker Barrel.

The Mahogany Apple candle smells divine! It’s got a hint of apple without it smelling super light and sweet. And because it’s in the picture, Puracy has been the hand soap we’ve been using since the beginning of 2020 and we love it! Because it’s completely clean, it took a little getting used to because it feels different than regular soap, but it smells great and I feel good knowing our soap is safe.

Fall Home Tour 2019

Hi friends!!!

Sorry for my unexpected week long absence!  I’m still trying to figure out how to juggle everything and this blog often comes last–especially when Harrison is sick…again 🙁

Emily and I are sharing our fall home tours, and to be totally honest, mine is nothing special this year.  There are some decorations I didn’t put out because I wanted something different, but it’s also not a top priority to buy new fall decorations while my paycheck is still cut–thanks American maternity leave 😜  But don’t worry, Christmas will definitely be over the top this year!

 It was in the mid-90s when I took this picture so there isn’t much on our porch.  What you can’t see are our fall pillows on the rocking chairs.  Mums may come later.

 I changed up the sofa table and mantle this year and am really pleased with how they look.


 Our living room looks a lot different these days–can you spot the difference?!


 I hate having a corner fireplace.  When we build again, I will not do a corner fireplace because it makes rug placement awkward.  I thought about doing a custom cut rug, but didn’t have the energy to research prices and places.

 I only decorated this side of the kitchen because the other side is covered with bottle drying racks and formula and all the baby necessities.


We do secret pals at school and my secret pal gifted me with some fall decorations, so I added them to our bedroom!  I love both of them–especially since the pumpkin lights up, too!

Harrison’s Nursery Tour

I know it’s taken me (what feels like) forever to get around to sharing Harrison’s nursery, but that’s because it didn’t feel finished and it still doesn’t feel finished.  But I think it’s as good as it’s going to get right now!

Because we pursued adoption and knew that it could move quickly, I wanted to have a nursery ready as soon as possible.  I knew it would have to be gender neutral, and I found creating a gender neutral nursery much harder than I thought it would be.  I searched Pinterest for ideas and basically almost all gender neutral nurseries are either farmhouse style (which is not my style at all) or modern/minimalistic–again, not my style.  I knew I needed to come up with my own design–but on a budget 😁

My favorite color is blue so I decided I wanted really pale, pastel blue walls with all white furniture.  Then if we matched with a boy, it would be easy to style it for a boy, or if we matched with a girl, I would add in light pinks.

The first thing that went wrong was the paint.  I picked out a color from Sherwin Williams (can’t remember the name) and had them cut it down to 50%.  My mom helped me paint and when we opened up the can, it was the most beautiful shade of pale blue……until it dried on the walls.  It was so much darker than I had intended it to be.  We painted the first coat and decided I would sleep on whether or not I was going back to the paint store to get a lighter shade.  I ended up deciding to keep the color and figured I would repaint if we were matched with a girl.

Because I was on a strict budget, I didn’t want to buy a cheaply made glider that wouldn’t last long and we weren’t in the place to spend a lot of money on a quality one.  I found the one we have at my friend’s consignment sale and it was custom from a very expensive local baby store.  The only problem–it was gray…..a color I don’t like.  I think I sat in the glider for 30 minutes contemplating whether or not I should buy it.  It was excellent quality at a good price but it was a color I hated and didn’t want in the nursery.  I ended up buying it, and I’m glad I did because it’s so comfortable and doesn’t look bad in his room.

That’s a little background before seeing his nursery.  Like I said, it’s not finished–I probably want to add shelves on either side of his window–but I am ready to share it.

 This is the view from the doorway.  I’d like to have a rug, but that’s low on the priority list.

 We announced our adoption holding a gown with a lamb on it, so a lamb felt symbolic!


 I had to include the top left picture because Harrison was crying during pictures and he’s holding Dustin’s finger.
