Weekend Recap: Weather Day Edition

Two things about this past weekend:
1. All weekends should be 3 day weekends
2. I was horrible at remembering to take pictures this weekend (I did take a few)

I believe 3 day weekends should be the new norm.  Dustin was off Friday-Sunday and so was I and it was wonderful.  The weather was perfect, and I felt like this weekend was a snapshot of this summer!

FRIDAY
I am working on getting back into running shape.  For me, that’s being able to run 3 miles comfortably, so Friday I got out and ran 2 miles.  Then I enjoyed a post-run snack of Greek yogurt and protein granola while reading the latest Southern Living–my favorite!
Then Mom and I ran a few errands together, I took a nap, and Dustin and I hung out the rest of the night.


SATURDAY
The weather on Saturday was even better than Sunday!  I took my dad grocery shopping with me early Saturday morning since he needed to get a few healthier food items.  On my way home, I called my sister to see if she wanted to meet me at the park to walk, and she asked me if we wanted to go out on the boat with them.  Of course!  Dustin and I got ready really quick and headed out on the river with Rachel and Nick.
 We’re excited to be backing out of the boat slip!  The first ride on the river is always the best.


 Rachel’s dog, Ralph, was so excited to be going out on the river, too!


 We tied up next to my cousin’s boat and floated for a few hours!

After a few hours on the river, we ran home to shower and realized that we still had to go up to Mom and Bill’s to feed cattle while my step-dad was out of town.  I had just gotten out of the shower, so I pulled my hair up into a top knot and showed Dustin what I used to do out on the farm!
 Dustin snapped these of me without me even knowing it.  He said, “I took these of you for you to put on your blog.”  Love him!

I wasted zero time getting those feed buckets filled for us Dustin to carry into the different pens/pastures.  I did what I used to do–open gates.

Then we rushed back to the house for me to dry my hair, straighten it, and put on make up for us to go out to eat with his friends.


SUNDAY
After church, we came home to eat and get ready to go to Lowe’s to get a few more things for Dustin’s latest project:
And we had to pick up fresh strawberries from our local peach farm.
I ran again and Dustin finished his cooler!
 See the level?  He’s showing me how perfectly level it is haha!

We grilled and enjoyed supper out on the back porch while listening to oldies–Sunday night couldn’t have been any more perfect!

A Day in the Life (4.18.16)

I’m finally linking up with Andrea for one of her Show and Tell Tuesday posts!  Today we’re all sharing a Day in the Life, and these are my very favorite posts to read!  I love learning about the daily lives of others–you never know what you’ll find you have in common with another blogger!

I’m sharing my Day in the Life from yesterday 🙂

My alarm goes off at 5 AM during the week day and you can see I stayed in bed a little bit longer.  I got into the habit during grad school that if I wanted to read and comment on any blogs, I had to do it first thing in the morning because afternoons and evenings were devoted to school work, Dustin, or the million other things I’m involved with.  I’m sure I’ll stick with getting up that early after grad school because I love having that time to myself in the morning.

Drinking Spark and reading blogs!  (And charging my Fitbit)

We finished up watching The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe in my English classes today.  This was the first year that I showed a movie during testing week because I really spent so much time reviewing for our state standardized testing–as in, my students wrote 5 different essays preparing for the writing section on the test.  They loved watching this movie, and we completed a worksheet during and spent lots of time talking about all of the biblical allusions in the movie (book).

Then I got home and ran.  It feels good to know that I’m working my way back into shape.
We (I) enjoyed cooling off on the front porch before supper.

Supper was a crockpot meal–SO good!  Chicken, corn, salsa, adobo chilis, brown rice….amazing.

I took a shower and then remembered I had to wash towels.  White towels are perfect except when you live with a man and can’t keep them white 🙁
While the towels were washing, I decided to relax a bit and watch last week’s episode of Real Housewives of Dallas.  Thoughts so far: Leeanne is mean.  I’ll have to catch up on last night’s episode later.

This is a day in the life, right?  Here’s what I look like post-shower with still damp hair–it got bigger after it dried completely.  #thankgoodnessforstraighteners

Then someone wanted me to sit with him while he wrote out a few checks.
(Also, does anyone else still use check registers?  Or are we just old souls in young bodies?)
I started reading a new book, did my quiet time, and ended up going to bed around 10 PM.

A Day in the Life–January 5, 2016

Remember next Thursday that Victoria and I are hosting a link up of book reviews and/or recommendations, so we can make our reading lists for 2016!  I’ve got two new books to share, and then I’m going to review some of my favorites that I read in 2015.

On our first day back to school last year, I did a Day in the Life post (click here) and so I decided to do it again to see how much has changed (or hasn’t changed haha) in a year!

Wake up time is much earlier this year than last year!  Don’t worry, this is just twice a week that I do this and only because it’s very hard to work out in the afternoons while I’m in grad school.  And because I woke up so early yesterday morning, I had to go to bed earlier Monday night to prepare myself, so I DVR’d The Bachelor to watch it the next night.
Headed to my 5 AM class at the gym–yay!  (No pictures after since I hobbled back into the house and straight to the shower.)
A quick breakfast of my Special K Protein bar and Spark while I’m getting ready.
During my planning period I had to have a snack of almonds because I was starving!  I also had a few lists going of things to accomplish and the blue book is the novel we start reading on Monday.
I went over components of a narrative essay today and how it differs from a short story.
Then I was able to leave school before 3:30!  I went home straight after school yesterday but the whole time I was driving, I kept trying to think of something that I was forgetting to do or if I had somewhere to be.  It’s been so unnatural lately for me to be free after school, but I didn’t argue!  Grad school starts back Monday–yuck!
When I got home I lit my candle, turned on Friends, put away dry dishes, and washed breakfast and lunch dishes.
Then I separated some laundry and decided to do two small loads in order to stay on top of things.  I try to do one load of laundry every day or every other day.
Then I watched TV for an hour and a half!!!!!!!!

My husband got home at 6 and I snapped this of him while he’s unloading his massive lunch box.
We ate a quick pizza dinner–by the way, the DiGiorno’s Pizzeria Thin Crust Spinach and Mushroom pizza is the healthiest pizza I can find in the frozen foods section.  Half of the pizza is 500 calories!  We eat dinner every night at the dinner table–it’s something that’s extremely important to me.  No supper in front of the TV!!

Then my friend Rachel from school brought me a Starbucks K cup to try since she saw me with a cup of coffee on Monday.  I used to hate coffee so much and then I recently turned 28 and now like it!  And my husband says what I like isn’t coffee, but lattes and mochas from Starbucks are totally coffee.
Then Janie called me and told me she found 6 foot Christmas trees on sale for $7 at Walmart!  I had her buy me two and then found out that they were only $5!!  FIVE DOLLARS Y’ALL!  I will find places to put these trees next year!

Then I watched The Bachelor from Monday night.  Lace = crazy!  And Ben is so cute.
This guy watched it too without admitting it haha!

After The Bachelor was over, I took a quick shower (what I do every night before bed) and did my quiet time.  I’m doing the Genesis study in the She Reads Truth app right now.

I would love to say I slept great last night–especially since I had been up since 4:15–but Dustin woke up in the middle of the night and had low blood sugar, so I was up for that.  Thankfully he woke up though and told me!
