I’ve noticed that the older I get, the easier it is for me to get stressed out. Do you feel the same way? I remember taking a quiz in college about stress and I scored very low, and I feel like now if I took that same quiz I’d score way high! I think it’s because the older I’ve gotten (aka the fact that I’m now a real adult) and the more responsibilities I have, the easier it is for me to stress about things that I have no control over.
And stress really affects my body. We all know that stress can lower your metabolism, but I’ve learned that stress even affects my digestive system to make me very sick and unable to eat.
So how do I deal with the stresses of just being an adult?
I know the term “self-care” is a relatively new term but the concept is not. It’s so important to stop and make time to take care of ourselves before we run our body ragged. Below are some of my favorite ways to practice self-care…
1. Be in the Word and pray
2. Take a warm bath using lavender oil
3. Drink my favorite latte and savor it
4. Paint my nails (or have them done!!)
5. Get in my pjs early and make time to unwind
6. Read
7. Watch a TV show or Hallmark movie!
8. Go for a walk
9. Call my family or best friend
10. Light a candle
11. Go to bed early
12. Ask for help and accept that help!
13. Bake something sweet
