Friday Faves!

WOOHOO!!!  HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

I’m gearing up for a field trip today with my students, so I’ll be gone from school for a half day.  Then I’ve got a three day weekend which I am very excited about!

Today I’m sharing a few of my FAVORITES with y’all!

-I mentioned using this spray on my hair each time I get out of the shower and towel dry the excess water out.  This spray is a game changer when it comes to taking care of your hair and protecting it from damage.  And it smells good, too!


 I have really been lacking in my motivation to workout these days and I really don’t have a good excuse as to why.  Wednesday, I decided to get over it and packed running clothes to take with me to school so that I wouldn’t have the opportunity to go home–which is when I’m really good at talking myself out of exercising.  I went to my dad’s house after school since his neighborhood is much flatter than mine, and I ran.  I didn’t look at my watch for distance or time and it was so freeing….and the weather was pretty perfect, so that helped a lot!  I’m hoping to run a little Saturday if it isn’t raining.



I snapped this the same day I ran–I was proud of those calories!  I love my Apple watch and I’ve had this one over two years.  Dustin surprised me one Christmas, and it’s been the best gift!  I have the series 2.



I have loved snacking on goldfish lately!  You can have 55 of them for 4 WW points, and I can really make 55 last a long time haha!



Terrible picture quality, but I got a zenz hot stones massage yesterday after school and IT WAS THE BEST MASSAGE OF MY LIFE!!!  I still have a gift certificate from Dustin for my birthday back in October that I had been holding on to, so I decided to treat myself to the hot stones massage since my sister had said it was amazing.  Well, now I will never get a different type of massage ever again!  My body was so relaxed after I finished–I recommend this type of massage to everyone!


And now to leave you with a really fun song–Dustin and I are going to see him in concert in April!  We bought tickets the first of October, so it’s been a long wait but I’m getting excited!

Tips for Staying Healthier During the Holidays

With Thanksgiving happening tomorrow (so crazy!) and then Christmas parties just around the corner, there will be LOTS of opportunities to overeat and ruin your diet.  And most of us have more than one Thanksgiving feast to attend–which means a lot of eating.

I thought I’d share with you some of the tips I’m going to try to follow in order to make sure that I enjoy the holiday and don’t leave regretting everything I ate.

1. Fill up on the protein.
Turkey is a lean protein, so get more turkey and less sides.  Just make sure you stay away from the skin if your turkey has been fried or baked.  


2. Allow yourself 3 sides.
Instead of getting a little sample of every side (which can add up), pick 3 that you want to treat yourself to and sample those.  My favorites that I’m definitely putting on my plate are dressing and baked mac and cheese.  We actually have 3 meals to go to, so I guess I’ll just decide on my 3rd when I see all of the sides available!


3. No breads!
Do you really need a roll?  You don’t.  And if you are going to get dressing like I’m going to, then that counts as your bread since it contains cornbread.  Yes, rolls are good but they aren’t essential and are unnecessary calories.


4. Allow yourself a tiny dessert.
I’m going to allow myself a tiny slice of pumpkin pie since it’s a once a year dessert.  Usually I would get a piece of this, a piece of that, and eventually, my dessert plate might have 3 things on it.  Pick the dessert you want the most, and treat yourself!


5. Get some exercise in!
Our first Thanksgiving is tonight, so I will be exercising this morning to try to get my metabolism going.  Maybe in between cooking, take a break and go out for a brisk 15 minute walk.  You’ll feel much better going into Thanksgiving knowing you’ve had a little exercise–that always works for me 😊


6. Don’t be so hard on yourself.
If you overeat, then don’t be so hard on yourself.  Give yourself some grace, but also be cognizant of what you eat the rest of the day.  If you overeat at one Thanksgiving, don’t go home and eat your leftover pie you made.  This morning I’ll be eating 2 hardboiled eggs for breakfast, and then for lunch, I’ll have some deli turkey meat and a few veggie straws.  Both are filling meals and healthy meals to prepare for tonight’s calorie-filled feast 😜

My First Time Experience With Hydrafacial at Silver Stone Salon Spa

I am always looking for ways to improve my skin.  I battle with the monthly break out, have an oily t-zone, and have sun damage from the years when I didn’t care about using sunscreen.  Ugh, I cringe just thinking about how ignorant I was.

Now that I’m 30–and soon to be 31 🙈–I realize that the face I have is the only face I will ever have so I better take care of it because I’m not getting another one!

When I found out that my local salon, Silver Stone, was starting to offer hydrafacials, I was so intrigued and excited to try a new facial technique to help my skin look bright and youthful.  If you’ve never had a hydrafacial or if you’ve never heard of it, then you will want to get one ASAP because after my experience, I’m hooked!

This was everything that came out of my skin after the facial!

I wasn’t sure what to expect so I’m really excited to be able to explain it to all of y’all!  And I know that you’re going to want to go get one as soon as you make it through this post!  PS…If you’re local, stick around until the end because there’s something awesome for you!

These were the steps of my facial:
1. Lymphatic drainage–this was done using suction and I could really tell a difference when she was doing it over my sinus cavities above and below my eyes and it’s like the pressure I was feeling was lessened greatly after that.

2. Exfoliation–this was done using one of exfoliating tips on the wand

3. Peel–this was done using another tip on the wand.  The peel is not like a chemical peel so it’s not going to make your face peel and you don’t have to stay out of the sun for days after.

4. Extractions–this was done using another tip on the wand.  Whitney used this in my t-zone which is where a lot of my big pores are and even some black heads.  I felt so clean after this because I knew she had just taken all of the junk out of my skin!

5. Booster–she uses another tip on the hydrafacial wand for this.  I got the Britinol since I struggle with sun spots and overall just needed my skin brighter from discoloration.  She also has a booster she can use for fine lines and wrinkles if you have those.

6. LED light therapy–this was the neatest part and concept to me!  Whitney used the red light on my skin since I have slight redness to my skin.  If you struggle with acne, she can use the blue light, or she can use both!  I felt like this part was extremely relaxing and beneficial to my skin after the tools she used with the other parts of the hydrafacial.

7.Antiox-+–Whitney called this part the “liquid gold” because it’s used to help your face look younger!  She used another tip on the hydrafacial wand to apply.  This felt really refreshing on my skin!

8. Daily Essentials–after the main part of your hydrafacial is over, Whiney applied oil free moisturizer, an antiox-+ daily (more liquid gold!), and a sunscreen to my face.

Then I got to look at my face…
 Overall, my skin looks so much brighter and youthful looking!

I can really tell a difference in the overall brightness of my face and especially around my nose and my forehead!!

Can you tell how much brighter and youthful my skin looks?  This was after just one facial so imagine what my skin could look like after two?!

I feel like if you really want to take care of your skin and invest in helping your skin to look good, then this facial is for you!

You can really tell a difference on the picture below!  Same back drop, same lighting.  The picture on the left was right after she washed the make up off of my face, and the picture on the right is right after my hydrafacial.
