Fall Favorites 2016: Fall Decorations!

Happy First Day of Fall!!  

…Officially, right?!  

Because for me and probably for most of y’all, fall started on September 1st 🙂



Emily and I have been joining up this month to post our favorite things about fall, and today we’re sharing our fall decorations!  Be sure to check out her blog to see how she decorated her apartment–it is so cute!

Fall isn’t a season that I go above and beyond in the decorating (I save that for Christmas ha) and plus, I am still building up my fall decorations.  

Welcome to my minimal fall decor!
Right now the front porch has this door hanger and 2 ceramic jack-o-lanterns (not pictured). It’s too hot to put out mums or anything else that’s fall-like!  Hopefully it’ll cool down into the 80s and I can add more to my front porch.  

I also need porch ideas!  If you have any, send them my way!


I added this cute fall sign from Hobby Lobby and filled the candy dish with candy corn.  If you can’t already tell, it’s pretty empty–I’ve needed a lot of candy corn these past few days 🙂


I took the green apples and replaced with mini pumpkins and gourds in the glass canister on the sofa table.



I took down the summery items from the mantle and replaced with two fall items–an orange mercury glass pumpkin from Home Goods (last year) and a fall sign from Hobby Lobby (this year).  And of course I added a leaf garland 🙂



I added a simple bowl filled with fall items (bought in a bag at HL) in between the two candle sticks on the breakfast table.  Last year, Dustin spilled white sauce all over my fall table runner and I never replaced it.  Guess I’ll be buying one soon!



In the kitchen I’ve got my fall candle burning.  This exact one is Chestnut & Clove, and I have the Sweet Cinnamon Pumpkin hand soap right next to it.  And then the gorgeous flowers on the bar are a sweet gift from Dustin!  He had those delivered to my work on Friday and now I stare at them all the time–good job, D!

Show and Tell Tuesday + a Guest Post!

Hi friends!  I’m checking in today for two reasons:  I really wanted to participate in the House Tour Show and Tell with Andrea AND I have a guest post that I’ve written 🙂  I have really enjoyed this mini break, but I’ve also missed y’all!  My little break will probably be ending before school starts back because I am excited to get back to writing.

First, head on over to Evelina’s blog to check out my top 3 things to do in Alabama!  I live in such a wonderful state, and it was so hard narrowing my list down to 3 items.

Now, onto Show and Tell Tuesday!

Today I’m not going to show my entire house, but I’m going to show a few of the rooms I’ve updated and added to since the last time I took pictures.

 I’m unhappy with this entry way.  I don’t like that picture there, and it’s all so dark with all of the wood.  I’m going to replace the picture and lamp and re-style this dresser eventually.  I’ve got other things that I’m working on right now, but I’m always on the lookout for the perfect piece of artwork and home decor items!


 I added curtains and finished styling a few pieces–especially the mantle.


I used the same curtains from the living room in the breakfast room since the house is an open-concept floor plan and I wanted things to flow.  I also added a picture–a cow picture from my mom and I had framed.

In our bedroom…

 I added the most beautiful curtains!  I’ve still got to add the tiebacks on the left and right so the curtains look like they are framing the room.  And I’m still looking for the perfect piece of art to place above the chest of drawers.  I bought something last weekend but it was too small so my mom is using it in her mudroom. 
(The curtain rods look like they are slanting, but I think they look like that because I took this picture on the pano setting on my iPhone.)


And I added three botanical prints on the opposite side of the windows.  I’m still looking for art to go above each nightstand.  (So to sum it up, I’m always looking for artwork haha!)

Of course there are a million things I still want to do to the house:
-decide on a dining room table and purchase it before school starts
-buy a buffet and refinish it
-find chairs that are cheaper than $250/chair for the dining room
-buy a leather sectional for the upstairs tv room
-buy a tv for the upstairs tv room haha
-add more decorative pieces throughout the house

I’m glad to be back blogging today and I can’t wait to check out the other blogs linking up for the home tour!

Porch Goals for the Spring

I received my March issue of Southern Living last week in the mail.  That’s always such a joyous mail day because I love SL magazine and it’s not a bill!  As I was reading the magazine this past weekend, I came across a page in the Home + Garden section that listed annuals and perennials for spring.  And now I’m dying to add flowers to my house this spring!

When we built our house last year, we went ahead and had the builder landscape the front beds.  Since I’m no master gardener, I’m going to leave those alone for now and just focus on adding urns to the front porch.

Our house faces north so our front porch is shaded pretty much all day.  It’s great for sitting on, but not so great when it comes to flowers.

Those poor Mums didn’t make it very long in the shade last fall.

But more realistically speaking, I think I’ll have to go for something similar to these or for any flower that requires shade.
