I have never been one to have the latest tech upgrade. Maybe it’s also because I tend to dress in classic clothes that can be worn year after year instead of trends that have to be replaced each new season. Regardless, I like to stick with whatever technology I’m using until it becomes useless.
For example, Dustin and I have had our MacBook since 2014 and won’t replace it until it dies on us (I hope I didn’t just jinx myself LOL). And I got my Apple Watch for Christmas back in 2016 right after the Series 2 model released. It’s been a GREAT watch and the only reason I ended up upgrading was because my battery started dying early on days that I also worked out.
So, for those of y’all who have maybe a Series 3 or 5 and have the bells and whistles, you may want to skip this post. But since Apple has obviously upgraded a lot of features between the 2 and the 6, I thought I’d share what I’ve learned in the 3 days I’ve owned one!
I ended up getting the Series 6 44mm because my Series 2 was the 38mm. I have terrible eyes, so I was ready to have a bigger screen.
New-to-me Features I Like:
The ability to change the font size. Who knew that I could choose that on my watch? I didn’t make it the biggest size, but I did make it a little bigger than the default size.
The flashlight. When I was playing around with my watch on the way home Friday night, I saw that it comes with a flashlight. I laughed and told Dustin I didn’t know why anyone would need that on their watch. Well, I ate my words later that night after I had to sneak into Harrison’s room while he was sleeping to get his dirty clothes out of his hamper. I didn’t want to turn on his closet light so I tried out the flashlight, and it was actually useful! I haven’t used it since Friday night, but it’s nice to know it’s actually a pretty decent flashlight.
The battery life. The sales guy at Apple told me that this battery is the longest lasting battery out of all the watches. This was my reason for getting a new watch, so I’m very excited about this.
Sleep Tracker. I haven’t used it yet because I don’t like sleeping in my watch, but I’ve read a lot about it and I’m going to try it out this week to see how I sleep each night.
Handwashing Feature. This watch picks up on when you start washing your hands and starts a timer for 20 seconds.
Universal bands. I really like how Apple has made sure that each new watch can still use the same bands from all previous watches. Which means that my band that I always wore with my series 2 also works with my new one! It’s nice to know you aren’t having to buy new bands for each new watch because those can be pretty expensive.
Now I know there are a lot of newer features like the blood oxygen tracker and the ECG, but the ones I listed are the ones that I have found useful in just the three days I’ve owned one!
Is there a feature I don’t know about yet?
