#MeetTheShaneyfelts: Reception!!

Yesterday I told you that I was really good in narrowing down pictures for the ceremony post; well today is a different story.  I had a really hard time choosing, so feel free to skim through these pictures.  I did this mainly for my own memories.

 Once we got to the country club for our reception, we headed out to take a few pictures on the golf course and the guests began to arrive.


As soon as guests began arriving, they immediately picked up their food (yummy bbq) and began to eat.  (Remember, we did get married at 6 PM and it was a 20 minute drive to the reception.)  After pictures, Dustin and I had a table set up in the office and we were able to eat by ourselves before the actual reception began.  Best thing we did!  We were able to make sure we ate uninterrupted and it was so fun to recap the day together and eat our first meal as husband and wife.

 Our first dance was to Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love”
 After our first dance we immediately cut both of our cakes.  I wanted guests to be able to eat cake while they watched the next two dances.  I definitely thought about how I feel at weddings sometimes where I’m dying for cake but it seems like it takes forever until the bride and groom cut it haha!

 My cake was strawberry and vanilla layers with a buttercream frosting died pale pink.  And as you can tell, I didn’t have a cake topper #notapriorityforme

 Dustin’s cake was wildlife-themed and it was red velvet with a buttercream, too.

 My dad and I danced to Hall and Oates’s “Sara Smile.”  He always sang that song to me when I was little to where I thought it was about me, so it was only fitting that we danced to it at my wedding!

 We also had a table set up where people could leave us marriage advice, and some of the things we read were hilarious!  And others were very sweet 

 Some of my book club friends came to the wedding!

#MeetTheShaneyfelts: Wedding Ceremony

Woohoo it’s wedding day!  No, not in reality, but I’m finally getting to recap the actual ceremony!  Y’all will be proud that I didn’t fill this post with 5 million pictures….although I wanted to!


Dustin and I did not get married in the church where we are members.  The church I chose for us to get married in (and I’m going to say I chose since I planned our wedding), was the very first church I began attending and also the church where I became a Christian.  Also this church has a center aisle, so you know how important that was ha ๐Ÿ˜œ

Our wedding was at 6 o’clock in the evening on July 26, 2014, and then (which I’ll recap tomorrow so come back to check!!) reception was at a country club outside of town.

Dustin and I both wanted our wedding ceremony to point to God’s goodness instead of us, and that “We love because he first loved us” 1 John 4: 19.  Our friend Adam married us and did a wonderful job sharing the Gospel in our ceremony.  Dustin and I also recited different vows to one another because our roles in our marriage are different–he is the head and I am his helpmate.

***Rules in this church prohibited the photographer from getting any close up pictures during the ceremony.
 The weather was really perfect that day!  Yes, really hot but that was to be expected.



 Dustin created our guest books on Shutterfly and we had our guests sign these.  I felt like this was so much more practical than a fancy guest book that we would never look at again. These books gave guests a chance to write personal notes on each page.


 Before the ceremony began, my girls gathered around me to pray for the ceremony, but most importantly, to pray for mine and Dustin’s marriage.  This prayer was led by my bff Janie.

Music is very important to me and I wanted the music played during our ceremony to glorify God.

(funny story…our school had a talent show off for the very first time and this student asked me if he could sing his audition song in front of our class to practice.  This was a couple of months before the wedding.  Of course I allowed him to sing and once I heard him, I knew he had to sing at the wedding.  Dustin picked this song out and my student was able to slow the tempo down and played it with his guitar….it was perfect!!)

“Be Thou My Vision”….this exact version and I cry every time I sing this hymn because the words are so beautiful.  Also if you listen to the link, they didn’t open the sanctuary doors until about a minute for a more dramatic entrance ๐Ÿ˜‰

“How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” performed by one of my childhood friends…she’s an AMAZING singer and it was beautiful!

 My mom and dad divorced when I was 13, and because of that, I wanted both of them to walk me down the aisle.

 We also had a family prayer right before we exchanged vows.  Our immediate family members surrounded us and prayed for our marriage.

We were married on Saturday, July 26, 2014–so cliche but literally the most beautiful day.  I wasn’t too worried about the weather that day since both our ceremony and reception were inside.  All of our pictures were scheduled to be outside, but I knew we could always do pictures inside the sanctuary since it was really pretty, too.

What I was worried about was fitting into my dress!  I had so many nightmares about my dress not zipping up on wedding day to where I tried my dress on almost everyday before the wedding.  It also didn’t help that I ended up having so many fittings for my dress because they were also having a hard time fitting it to my body perfectly–in hindsight, if I had to do it all over again, I kind of wish I would have chosen a different dress–maybe something that wasn’t strapless.  I could go on and on about my dress, but I won’t for your sake ๐Ÿ˜œ

The morning of the wedding, my bridesmaids, my mom, future mother-in-law, and I all met at the hair salon.  While everyone was getting their hair and make up done, my best friend’s mom (basically my 2nd mom) provided breakfast for us AND pimiento cheese which is my favorite!  I had the best morning hanging out with my girls before we had to be at the church at noon.

The following pictures were taken once we got to the church to start getting dressed for pictures.  Dustin and I chose to get pictures taken before the ceremony and I’m so glad we did!  I’ll share those in the next post.

 The guys had the tiniest room to get ready in, but they made do ๐Ÿ˜€



 My handsome groom trying to figure out the buttons on his top.  I was very particular about having the black buttons on the tuxes–Dustin probably could have cared less ha!



 My mom made sure we had plenty of food in our room before the wedding, and I’m not sure if even half of it was eaten.  Everyone did make me eat a piece of turkey before walking down the aisle to make sure I had some energy haha!

 And Dustin’s brother Wes brought me my gift…does the blue box look familiar?  ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜



 And then I had to put on my glasses in order to read his letter to me–to have young eyes again ha!



 My mom pinned her mom’s (my grandmother who is now deceased) cameo to an under layer on my dress.  It served as my something old and something borrowed (which I got to keep!).  My something new was my dress and my something blue was my bridesmaids!  They wore blue gowns.



This was the first time I got to see myself!!  I’ll just go ahead and say, everything about my wedding day was perfect, and I cannot wait to share it with y’all!
